July 7 Bombings

(abridged from cbn.com / The 700 Club / LINK)

They were the object of a voodoo curse and that night the curse was about to be acted on.

Keith and Debbie Jaggers were asleep in there house. They were missionaries in Wa, North Ghana, a large village with 30K souls. This was a mainly Muslim area, but there were a small band of local Christians as well as others who held with traditional black magic.

Five men planned to kill them but these men did not take into account one thing - and this was not the watchmen that Debbie and Keith had hired after various incidents from being spat at to mysterious flying nails or secure shelves that collapsed unaccountably causing minor injuries.

That fateful night at two am, they heard noisies outside. Through the window they saw two hooded men, military style, rushing across the compound. One of their two guards were beaten up. Then they heard the men enter the house with their accomplices. Keith and Debbie hid in the bathroom, behind the shower rail, as the gang methodically searched and ransacked room by room.

Behind the shower curtain they hid. They prayed. Then Debbie felt God speaking to her and say "Psalm 91, you have been in the secret place now stand in my shadow."

At that moment they heard the bathroom door handle move... ordered into the hall, Debbie and Keith felt reassured by God's presence. They stepped forwards fearlessly.

One man demanded money. Keith handed over 100 dollars and said "In the name of Jesus". This word triggered a visible backing away by the gang. The presence of God was clearly present. The gang retreated to the living room. Debbie and Shannon went into the bedrom. For one hour there was a stand off. Then as God promised they heard the gang leave and drive away never to return.

As Keith says, "Psalm 91 became a part of our personality. It is just part of who we are."

[Reading from Psalm 91] "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him. will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
